Almere-Haven

Booksigning in Almere-Haven on Monday January 19, 2009 by Michelle

Hey Derek and Doffies,

On Sunday evening…or actually on Monday (it was 00.11h) I got a textmessage from my niece/cousin (I never know which one applies when). She wanted to go to a signingsession of Derek and tomorrow was the only day she actually could go. So she asked if I wanted to join her. At first I said I wasn’t able to because I had to go to school, but I slept real bad that night, woke up several times, so I decided to stay at home and sleep some more (no I’m not some sort of wimp  , I have a burn out, so need to keep the energylevel up). I sent her a text that if she still wanted to go, I would go with her anyway.
So at around 11am I got a call from here, saying that she would love to go.

At 12.45am she arrived at my house, picked me up and we drove to Almere-Haven, about 50 minutes. The navigationsystem got us somewhere we didn’t want to be, so after driving around for a bit, calling the bookstore and asking for directions, we arrived at the bookstore at around 14.15pm. When we walked in, we saw that it was fairly quiet and no Derek yet.
After a few minutes Derek came in and thanked us all for being there on a ‘cold, rainy, monday afternoon’. My niece bought the book and we got number 23 (not that they used it).

We waited for a bit and watched Derek and the people in front of us. At about 15.00pm it was my nieces turn to meet Derek (her first time). I took some pics and while he kissed my niece, he looked over her shoulder towards me and asked her who I was. He gave me 3 kisses and he commented that I had such cold hands, while my niece had such warm hands (thinking about it now, that was really weird: normally she’s always cold and I’m normally always warm  ).

He signed her book, talked with her for a bit, took a few pics (with her long blond hair, covering the ‘bold’ bits of his head  ) and gave her a hug.
I just got a text from her, saying that she had a lovely time and that she really liked Derek. “Such a sweet man”. I believe we got a new fan ladies and gentleman  .

After that it was my turn. I got another 3 kisses and I gave him my letter and the picture of the first time I’ve met him and asked him to sign it. While singing, a little girl started crying. Of course he reacted to it, grabbed his bowl with biscuits, walked up to her and gave her one. Immediately she was quiet and when he walked back to me and looked at her again, she was smiling!!! That was sooo cute!! I have a lovely picture of me and Derek looking at the girl and we’re both smiling aswell.

After that he signed my picture and he gave me a new thingie which he now uses to sign when people have nothing on them (like a book or a picture). I told him I had seen him on telly last friday. He asked me if Í’d seen him in his underpants. I said yes and he started telling that Peter and his crew had been filming him when he came out of the shower…..naked  . Well you can imagine what he thought about that! It was kinda funny when he told it though haha.

After that he ‘grabbed’ (that word sounds really creepy, but it wasn’t  ) me and we took some lovely cuddling pics. After that he gave me a hug and I told him I would see him on Friday again! “where am I on friday?” “In Nieuw-Vennep”. “Owh really? What time?” “from 6 to 8pm Derek”. “Owh well you should come around 7pm, I’ll probably be late anyway”. Hahah Ok then!! No wonder by the way…he has 3 (!!!)  singingsessions that day! Gosh I can imagine he will be exhausted at the end of that day!

After the pics I bumped into the Angels. We had a short chat and it was nice to see them in real life. I believe I was talking to Brigitte when my phone rang (sorry hun, that I took that phonecall, feel a bit weird about that now. It was the media markt, telling that the camera I ordered wont be in untill the end of februari, which is a huge problem, cos I’m leaving for Australia on the 5th. So bit stress there.). We watched Derek for a abit and at one point, I got a text from my mum. If I already said to Derek that she would see him on friday. I called her back, to tell her about the camera and to tell her that I didn’t say it, when Derek yelled: Anyone else? (there were no new people for autographs at that point). So I asked him if he wanted to talk to my mum: “Sure!”
So I told him what her name is and he talked to her for a few minutes. That was so sweet of him

After that we still watched a bit when 2 old ladies with rollator (sorry Derek, don’t know the english word for it) walked along. They had absolutely no clue who he was, but Derek wont be Derek if he didn’t gave them a hug, kisses, an autograph and a picture! It was sooo funny. Derek kept saying: they probably have no clue who I am. Well he was right. The ladies from the shop and the angels explained to them who he was.

When my niece and I were outside for a bit of fresh air, one of the old ladies walked by and we asked her if she liked Derek. Well she did, she thought he was an absolute sweetheart (we agreed lol). She’d ordered the book ‘baby’s wil is wet’ because she has two daughters who are pregnant and she would get the book later that week, signed and with the pictures that were taken of her and Derek. She was really happy!! And we thought that was so sweet!

A few minutes later Derek + angels + security walked out of the shop and we left to. It was a really nice afternoon and I can’t wait for Friday!

With love,
Michelle
