Derek Ogilvie was born on 21-02-1965 at Paisley, Scotland, as the youngest of two children. Derek has one older sister named Elaine. In his younger years, Derek already felt that he was different then other people. Around his 9th or 10th he knew that he had a 6th sense. He could observe things that could not be seen by friends and family. Derek did not know then what this implied or what this meant for him. He never gave it much attention. Until his older neighbour died.

Afterwards he could feel his neighbour’s presence in his bedroom for months. Derek realised what he saw. He could see dead people! Strange enough this did not scare him. He simply accepted this fact and didn’t make a big fuss out of it.

During 1976, Derek was then 11 years of age; he could feel the pain of others for the very first time. This was on Christmas Day. Also he could feel much more energy than he ever previously could. He became clearer, alerter and completer. His brain felt like it has exploded and has grown bigger. Suddenly he was aware of more than he had experienced in former days… Derek was still the same person, but felt part of this ‘bigger’ something. He didn’t allow himself to get busy with this for the next twenty years. He pushed it away and tried to ignore his gift until the most hopeless moment in his life.

Derek’s psychic talents became very strong during the year of 1994. He thinks this revelation came because he was very honest to himself concerning his sexual preference. Derek became simply himself. He became a successful business man and owner of several bars and clubs. Somewhere in 1999, the crisis started with a bad investment in a club. And eventually he became bankrupt.

Derek’s paranormal vocation came in January 2001. He has got some problems with the social service because he did not apply for work. It was not a surprise that the spirit of his granny brought him a visit. She told him to look back positively on his life and the new competences which lay ahead. She ensured him he must get his own radio programme. Derek took her advice and rang the radio station Scott FM, impressed the boss and got a job at sister station QFM. As a result of this action he got his own radio programme Psychic Sunday. The radio programme ran extremely good and Derek became locally very well known. Because of this success he received a lot of requests for readings. After a couple weeks on the radio Derek made plans to give the same show in theatres.

During a private reading at someone’s home Derek has got the chance to perform in the Paisley Arts Centre. A chance he took with both hands! It did not take long before the shows were sold out. So he’s got the offer to do an extra show. Of course Derek did! Maybe this was Derek’s new destiny in life; becoming a medium. The next few years Derek gave more shows in several theatres like Johnstone Tone Hall.

On a day Derek received a phone call of the editor of the Paisley Daily Express, who offered a weekly psychic column to him. Derek answered letters which were sent by readers. At this time his radio programme Psychic Sunday stops because of cutting back costs at the radio station.

In 2003, Derek made a promotion video of the theatre shows and home readings. He also sent copies of the tape to people working in the media. On a Friday evening he got a phone call of a production company. They had seen his video and would like to talk with him (talk) about the possibility of working together on a new show for living TV, called Scream team. This production company was very impressed by Derek so they asked him immediately for the following Scream Team programme that was planned in Edinburgh, in Mary King Close. In the meantime Derek still gave his theatre shows throughout the country and wrote his newspaper column.

Derek noticed he could communicate with babies by coincidence during a private reading in Glasgow. Being there he suddenly felt the strong paranormal energy of a child (among the living) who was also in the room present. Derek noticed that the child tried to communicate with him. He never experienced this before. The child passed on pictures to him, one after the other, which he could observe in his mind. He understood them easy, more easily than the messages which he normally received from the spirit world. The first steps as a baby whisperer had been made at that moment.

As his career as a baby whisperer grew, more and more mothers asked him to help them with their children. Finally, a newspaper in Dumbarton published Derek’s story concerning his capacity to communicate with babies.

The publicity he had got in the local press led to the fact that the Scottish Sun dedicated an article to Derek’s work. Because of this he’s got the attention of some television people in London. He was invited in This Morning with Phillip Schofield and Fern Briton to perform live. In October 2004, Derek has got his own serial at Channel Five for two years named ‘The baby Mind Reader’. In 2006, Derek’s book ‘The baby Mind reader’ where in the shops.

In 2007, RTL 4 broadcasts the programme ‘The baby Mind reader’. This was the same kind of programme that Derek did for Channel Five only in a Dutch version: ‘Baby’s will is wet’. In these retransmissions Derek turned his psychic gifts to communicate with very young children, who can not yet talk.

Derek provides the parents with a step-by-step plan, where he bases himself on the information which the child has supplied him, to solve any kind of problems. During 2008, the Dutch version of his book ‘The baby Mind reader’ ends up in every store. It is called ‘De baby fluisteraar’, and describes Derek’s turbulent life.

As from 24 April 2008 Derek has got a new TV programme at RTL 4, called ‘The Ghost Whisperer. In this show Derek passes messages from deceased to the loved ones they left behind. Impressive theatre sessions form the main point for the shows in which providing comfort and offering aid is the central issue. ‘The Ghost Whisperer becomes a big success and has on its top 1.6 million viewers (retransmission and recurrence).

Everybody is talking about Derek Ogilvie and his unique psychic gifts. There where all kind of (internet) communities set up like forums, websites and supporter groups on Hyves. Media pays much attention to Derek and today Derek Ogilvie has his own fanclub.
